Copywriter
Position Summary
At RP3, we believe wildly original ideas are the most powerful force in marketing.
The Copywriter turns business challenges, audience insights, and cultural tension into clear, ownable ideas - then gives those ideas a voice people want to hear. This is a concept-first role: the writer helps find the idea, not simply add words after it exists.
The ideal candidate is equal parts thinker and writer - someone who can build campaign platforms, shape brand voice, tell persuasive stories, and make complex ideas simple and memorable. They pair originality and language craft with strategic judgment, cultural awareness, and emerging technology to explore further, iterate faster, and make the work better.
Key Responsibilities
Create Wildly Original Ideas
- Interrogate the brief, identify the human or cultural insight, and generate several distinct campaign territories before converging on a direction.
- Partner closely with art directors, strategists, designers, and creative leaders from the first idea through final execution.
- Push beyond the first answer. Write, compare, and improve multiple approaches, then articulate why the strongest idea solves the client challenge
Craft Meaningful Stories
- Build verbal systems for brands and campaigns, including naming, taglines, messaging frameworks, manifestos, headlines, hooks, and calls to action.
- Write across social, digital, video, broadcast, OOH, experiential, CRM, web, presentations, and emerging platforms, adjusting the idea to the behavior of each channel.
- Create scripts, narratives, and long- and short-form copy with a distinctive voice; edit and proof work until every word is clear, intentional, and accurate.
Use AI to Explore and Refine
- Use generative AI and other emerging tools to support research synthesis, divergent ideation, message exploration, voice prototyping, and rapid development of copy options.
- Write effective prompts and briefs, compare outputs critically, and use AI as a creative sparring partner - never as the final authority on strategy, facts, voice, or taste.
- Own every final word. Verify facts and sources, protect confidential information and intellectual property, check for bias or unsupported claims, and know when AI is not the right tool.
Collaborate, Present, and Deliver
- Present concepts and copy confidently to internal teams and clients, connecting creative choices to the strategy and audience insight.
- Invite, evaluate, and apply feedback without losing sight of the idea; advocate for strong work with clarity and low ego.
- Partner with creative, strategy, account, media, and production teams to balance ambition with timelines, budgets, and executional realities.
- Manage multiple projects and brands with the ownership and resourcefulness required in a small agency. Stay current on culture, language, platforms, and AI, and share useful discoveries with the team. Document effective prompts and workflows so strong approaches can be repeated and improved. Help RP3 adopt these tools without compromising craft or client trust.
Who You Are
What Success Looks Like
- Consistently generates multiple fresh, unexpected, and strategically grounded creative ideas.
- Develops campaign platforms and verbal ideas that can stretch across channels, not just one-off lines or executions.
- Demonstrates exceptional writing craft, precision, and the ability to create distinctive voices for different brands and audiences.
- Partners with art directors and other disciplines to build one integrated idea in words, images, experiences, and behavior.
- Turns early thinking into persuasive narratives, scripts, presentations, and prototypes that help teams and clients see the idea.
- Uses AI deliberately to expand exploration, synthesize inputs, test language, and accelerate iteration without flattening voice or originality.
- Creates work that is clear, human, on-strategy, accurate, and capable of earning attention and driving measurable results.
Qualifications
- A portfolio that demonstrates original campaign thinking, a strong point of view, and excellent copy across multiple channels.
- 3-5 years of experience, ideally in an advertising agency or similarly fast-paced creative environment.
- The ability to move from strategy and insight to a big idea, then express that idea through a cohesive verbal system.
- Strong command of language, structure, storytelling, grammar, editing, and presentation - from a three-word headline to a long-form narrative or script.
- Versatility across brand voices, audiences, and channels, with the judgment to remain consistent without becoming formulaic.
- Hands-on fluency with generative AI tools for research, concepting, copy exploration, editing, and prototyping - plus the discipline to validate and substantially refine their output.
- A collaborative, low-ego approach; comfort presenting and receiving feedback; and the ability to work independently when a lean team needs it.
