Loyalty isn’t a business strategy. Relevance is.
As marketing leaders change, agencies can’t rely on history to keep their seat at the table. We have to keep proving our value, evolving with the business, and solving the problems that matter now.
Our job as marketers isn’t just to deliver the work. It’s to keep bringing new thinking to the table, stay close to the business, and become a true extension of our clients’ teams. The strongest partnerships aren’t dependent on one relationship or one leader. Our value should be understood across the organization. So when leadership changes, we’re not starting from zero. We can point to the problems we’ve helped solve, the impact we’ve made, and the ideas we’re already bringing forward, then earn that new leader’s trust quickly. Because no matter how long you’ve been in the room, you should always be giving clients a reason to keep you there.
I shared more of my perspective with Ad Age on what it takes to build agency partnerships that can withstand leadership change.
